Sodium l'hydroxyde de sodium peut être trouvé sous les noms : soude caustique, soude caustique, hydroxyde de sodium, soude caustique.
L'hydroxyde de sodium solide est une substance cristalline blanche. Il est hygroscopique et se combine facilement avec le dioxyde de carbone dans l'air (formant un revêtement de carbonate de sodium). Gardez-le dans des récipients bien fermés. Il se dissout très bien dans l'eau en dégageant une quantité importante de chaleur et en créant une solution d'hydroxyde de sodium, c'est-à-dire un liquide inodore, incolore et ininflammable qui réagit avec les acides, les oxydes non métalliques et les hydroxydes amphotères et forme des sels de sodium. Il est glissant au toucher et provoque des brûlures. Il est corrosif pour les métaux, surtout en présence d'humidité. Il réagit facilement avec les métaux ayant des propriétés amphotères, libérant de l'hydrogène (par exemple avec l'aluminium et le zirconium, formant respectivement de l'argile et des zirconates). Forme des sels avec les acides organiques faibles (par exemple les phénols et le nitrométhane). Sous l'influence de NaOH, les non-métaux se disproportionnent (par exemple, le phosphore blanc bouilli avec une solution de NaOH donne du phosphate et du phosphate, et le soufre se dissout dans une solution de NaOH pour former du sulfure et du sulfite).

COMMENT UTILISER
La soude caustique est utilisée comme ingrédient dans les préparations pour le nettoyage des canalisations d'égout. Elle est également impliquée dans la production de savon, de verre soluble de silice, de colorants et de rayonne. En outre, il est utilisé dans la production de caoutchouc, le traitement des eaux à des fins industrielles et dans l'industrie du papier.
