The beginnings of the Salt Mine in Kłodawa date back to 1949. The rock salt and magnesium-potassium salt dome discovered there is still considered the largest find in our country. The salt mine is 26 kilometers long and up to two kilometers wide. Salt from Kłodawa is classified as natural rock salt and is mined using traditional mining methods. This allows it to get as many minerals as possible. The commercially sold Kłodawa salt is usually subjected to mechanical grinding processes. We meet them in different versions as well as colors. It turns out that Kłodawa salt can be pink, snow-white, slightly gray and grey-blue. The color of the product depends primarily on its intended use and the time that has elapsed from salt extraction to its arrival on store shelves in the form of a ready-to-sell product.
More than 97% of Kłodawa salt consists of sodium chloride (NaCl). ). About 1.5% of this product consists of minerals such as magnesium, iron, zinc, potassium, calcium, manganese, copper and selenium. The rest of the composition is potassium iodide and water. Research also shows the presence of traces of iodine in it. However, it should be remembered that despite the presence of valuable minerals for health, Kłodawa salt should be used in a dose that does not exceed the recommendations of the Polish Food and Nutrition Institute. This means that we shouldn't consume more than about 4 grams of this product (one level teaspoon) per day. It is worth remembering that most of the products that we eat every day (e.g.: ham, cheese, canned vegetables) also contain large amounts of salt, which should be included in the daily balance corresponding to consumption of this ingredient.
Salt is an essential ingredient for maintaining proper water, electrolyte, and acid-base balance in the human body. In addition, both sodium cations and chlorine anions interfere with the proper functioning of the nervous and digestive systems. It turns out that sodium is responsible for the production of hydrochloric acid, which is involved in the digestion of proteins and the formation of an antibacterial barrier. It is also important to know that both excess and lack of salt in the daily diet have negative effects on human functioning. Among the deficiency symptoms we can distinguish physical weakness, nausea and even vomiting, as well as loss of appetite and disorientation. In addition, the traces of iodine contained in Kłodawa salt have a positive effect on the functioning of the thyroid gland. However, it should be remembered that the excess of this component (which is diagnosed much more often today) contributes to serious consequences. Therefore, it is imperative to follow the recommendations for consumption of this product set by the Institute of Food and Drug Administration or (in some cases) the treating physician and/or clinical nutritionist.
Salt from Kłodawa attracts more and more attention from health experts and healthy nutrition. It turns out that this product mined in Wielkopolska is characterized by a slightly higher mineral content compared to conventional table salt. Additionally, Kłodawa salt is often compared to Himalayan salt, which is considered by many to be the healthiest salt in the world. Therefore, according to experts, the inclusion of Kłodawa salt in a healthy diet and an active lifestyle in a dose not exceeding the established recommendations can positively affect the functioning of the human body.

Kłodawa salt can be successfully used as a substitute for traditional salt in our home kitchen. It can be added to salads, canned vegetables and sauces. However, it is important to know that Kłodawa salt is also perfect for home care. When added to the bath in a small amount, it will give you a feeling of relaxation. Soaking your feet in water with the addition of Kłodawa salt will help us fight against calluses and cleanse our skin of excess harmful fungi and bacteria that we often deal with both in the pool and in the gym.
