Liposomes are structures that arise spontaneously from phospholipids. They have the form of water (or aqueous solution) filled vesicles with a size of 0.01-1 micron surrounded by a double lipid layer with a thickness of about 5 nanometers, hence they are also called phospholipid vesicles.
