Eigenschaften von kolloidalem Silber

Colloidal silver, also known as nanosilver, is a substance that has been valued and used for thousands of years. Even today, it is widely used in ophthalmology and dermatology. In this article, we focus primarily on the positive effects of colloidal silver on our skin—learn how a well-chosen nanosilver product can affect your skin.

What is colloidal silver

Argentum colloidale, i.e., colloidal silver or coralgol, is a pharmaceutical raw material obtained by combining microscopic (sizes of several tens of nm) silver particles with a carrier such as protein, gelatin, or water. The resulting solution is an inhomogeneous colloid in which suspended metal particles are visible.

It is worth noting that the preparations and cosmetics for sale, such as toners, contain highly diluted colloidal silver, due to which the concentration of the metal contained in them is sufficiently low and safe for regular use on the skin.

How to use colloidal silver

Nanosilver is particularly valued for its antibacterial properties and ability to neutralize viruses and fungi. Positive silver ions attract germs and microorganisms, allowing them to be neutralized and destroyed almost instantly. This makes silver-containing products perfect for the care of problematic and oily skin, as well as wounds and irritations.

How do you apply colloidal silver to your skin? Toners and gels for washing your skin can be used daily, but they can also be applied selectively to specific areas, such as scars or burns. For this purpose, you can use a cotton swab or a mist-like product that is sprayed onto the selected area of the body.

Thanks to the effect of nanosilver, the skin is:

  • well cleaned and prepared for the next care steps (therefore nanosilver is often used before aesthetic-medical treatments),
  • soothed, free from redness and moisturized,
  • slightly mattifies (and also regulates excessive sebum production),
  • disinfected, which allows minor wounds to heal much faster.

Colloidal Silver - Effects of Use

For minor cuts, scrapes, or acne treatment, it's a good idea to purchase a product containing colloidal silver. Its effectiveness will be felt by both those looking for a product that soothes post-shave irritation and those seeking an effective product that supports epidermal regeneration in more problematic skin conditions.

Due to its properties, colloidal silver is widely used for both hair and scalp—particularly as a support in the fight against dandruff and excessive scalp oiliness. The tonic is also ideal for wiping nails and foot skin to limit the development of fungi and bacteria. The presence of silver also helps to soothe insect bites locally.

You can also find cosmetics on the market, such as antiperspirants or body wash gels, that contain added silver. Its antibacterial effect aims to prevent the proliferation of bacteria on the skin's surface, which in turn protects against unpleasant odors.

Despite its beneficial effects on the skin, it's important to remember that silver is a heavy metal and, in higher concentrations, a toxic substance. Excessive use of silver can accumulate in tissues and is therefore primarily recommended for external use, with the instructions on the packaging of the respective product being followed.
