Extra virgin olive oil - as is well known, free radicals are responsible for the oxidation process and therefore for the aging of our cells. Olive oil contains significant amounts of antioxidants: vitamin E and polyphenols. It contains very low levels of saturated fat.

Lutein - belongs to the group of carotenoids, natural dyes, fat-soluble. Carotenoids are produced by plants, algae and photosynthetic bacteria. Lutein is part of the macula of the eye and serves as protection against UV light, acts as an antioxidant.

Advanced technology is used to produce BioAstin Natural Astaxanthin from Haematococcus Pluvialis Algae. The initial phase of the cultivation of these algae takes place in closed tank systems with a capacity of up to 40,000 liters. Another short cycle of 5-7 days of “red coloring” occurs in open ponds with a capacity of 50,000 liters. At each stage of BioAstin production, Haematococcus algae cultures are examined microscopically to ensure the cultures are clean and free from contamination. At the end of the "red coloring" cycle, the seaweed is harvested, washed and dried. The final stage of BioAstin production is the extraction of dried Haematococcus algal biomass using supercritical carbon dioxide into an oleoresin free from biological or environmental contaminants. The supercritical extraction process is a key production step that ensures the potency, purity, and quality of BioAstin Natural Astaxanthin.
It is a common misconception that closed microalgae breeding tanks protect against contamination with other organisms. However, this is not true. Such closed cultures can also be contaminated by other algae, fungi and protozoa. In such a situation, the removal of biological contaminants in closed tanks can be very difficult due to the specificity of this type of culture system. In fact, the continued contamination of closed farms has caused serious problems for seaweed producers in California, Europe and Hawaii (not Cyanotech). Closed and open systems for breeding tanks have been developed based on Cyanotech's many years of experience.
