Swedish herbs – preparation method

To make a tincture from a blend of Swedish herbs, follow these steps. First, place the herb packet in a 2-liter wide-mouth bottle. Then, pour 1.5 liters of good, 38-40% fruit vodka over the herbs. Leave the bottle in a warm or sunny place for 14 days. It is important to shake the bottle daily, both during maceration, before transferring the tincture to smaller bottles, and before each use. The finished elixir will keep for many years—its potency increases with time.

If you want to use Swedish herbs externally in the form of a compress, follow these instructions: Moisten a piece of cotton wool or lignin with the tincture and apply it to the area to be treated. Before applying the compress, it is recommended to lubricate the skin with calendula ointment or another fatty ointment. Cover the package with a large piece of foil to protect your clothing from contamination. Wrap the whole thing with a bandage. The compress should remain on the skin for 2 to 4 hours, depending on the type of condition. You can also leave it overnight. After removing the compress, the skin at the application site should be sprinkled with powder. If irritation still occurs, especially in people with very sensitive skin, the application time of the compress should be shortened or discontinued for a while.

A blend of Swedish herbs based on a traditional recipe is a natural preparation worth having in your medicine cabinet. Thanks to its properties, it supports health on many levels, from supporting the immune system to improving digestion to treating skin conditions. The herbal tincture is easy to prepare and can be used both internally and externally, making it an extremely practical and effective remedy.
