Natural ways to repel mosquitoes

The long-awaited summer is finally here—a time for rest and vacations. The days are getting warm and long. Finally, we can organize a barbecue or bonfire with friends, a bike ride, a canoe trip, or a camping trip. Unfortunately, these idyllic images are shattered when we remember the presence of small but truly annoying creatures. We're talking, of course, about mosquitoes, which can ruin many carefully planned and longed-for rest periods that each of us longs for.
To combat mosquitoes, we stock up on chemicals available in drugstores that, as it turns out, are not only harmful to mosquitoes but also bad for the environment and ourselves. Some of them contain diethyltoluamide, which can be toxic to the nervous system, especially in young children. It is not recommended for pregnant women and children under two years of age to use products containing it. It is not even recommended for adults. It can also damage clothing. That's why today, with environmental awareness on the rise, we are starting to look for natural alternatives. Here are some home remedies to repel mosquitoes that you should know about.
How do you effectively repel mosquitoes?
How is it that mosquitoes can locate us so easily despite the darkness? This is because they are attracted to the ammonia and lactic acid contained in sweat, as well as the elevated carbon dioxide concentration in the air exhaled by humans.
Since mosquitoes definitely don't like certain smells, natural essential oils can help . Keep in mind, however, that these are highly concentrated plant essences, so we shouldn't apply them directly to the skin, as they can cause irritation or allergic reactions. However, when prepared correctly, they are safe even for small children. To make a homemade mosquito repellent, simply mix a few drops of your chosen essential oil with apple cider vinegar, coconut oil , or your favorite moisturizer. These oils contain aromas that effectively repel mosquitoes:
- Eucalyptus,
- Mint,
- rosemary ,
- Thyme,
- Vanilla,
- Cinnamon,
- with patchouli,
- Anise,
- Pine oil.
Mosquitoes definitely don't like citrus scents, which is why the following oils are often recommended: grapefruit or lemon oils, as well as bergamot and lemongrass. However, it's important to note that these are highly photosensitive. This means that when combined with ultraviolet rays, they can cause redness and unsightly discoloration on the skin.

Lavender essential oil, which we can mix with aloe vera gel (3 drops per teaspoon of gel is sufficient), can help. This homemade ointment not only reduces swelling and provides relief, but also soothes itching.THE PUBLISHER'S CHOICE
