One of the most used kitchen accessories is the cutting board. It is useful when preparing any meal, both breakfast and lunch or dinner. Although its main job is to protect the kitchen worktop from scratches and damage, it turns out it doesn't have to be its only application. If the board is properly finished and cared for, we can also use it as an element of table decoration and as a tray to serve cheese, cold cuts or fruit, for example.
Types of Cutting Boards
Boards made of various materials are commercially available. Wood, plastic, stone and even glass. The selection is huge and can make you dizzy. When it comes to a cutting board, plastic is considered a hygienic material as it absorbs less juices and odors than wood, plus it's easy to wash and keep clean. However, today everyone knows that it is a non-ecological material and if we try to choose ecological products for the home, then a plastic panel is not an option. Wood is certainly a biodegradable material, but wooden boards are quite difficult to keep clean, they absorb all odors and are relatively heavy. Although glass boards do not absorb odors and are easy to clean, they can dull knives and of course break them. A product that is also ecological, light and easy to clean is a Bamboo cutting board. Available for a relatively short time, it has become a real hit.

As a cutting board made of bamboo at first glance how looks like a wooden board, many people think that bamboo boards are also made of wood. However, bamboo is a plant species with strong, woody stems - an ecological material that grows very quickly (even a meter per day). For the production of bamboo boards very tightly compressed, transversely arranged stems are used. Thanks to this method, there is no need to use harmful glues and other substances. Since the structure of Bamboo tray is very compact, no water or other liquids penetrate and is therefore not a breeding ground for the development of bacteria. In addition, it is environmentally friendly, light and handy, which is particularly appreciated by older people. Bamboo cutting board:

- it is ecological, light, durable and hygienic,
- resistant to moisture and penetration of odors,
- you can cut meat, cheese, bread, vegetables and fruit on it,
- does not dull knives
- it is resistant to damage and very high temperatures.
How do I care for a bamboo cutting board so that it serves us as long as possible? waterproofing and washing
Caring for everyday things so that they serve us as long as possible is in line with the assumptions of the Zero Waste philosophy – the principles of living in harmony with nature and not wasting what we have. In order to a bamboo cutting board can be used for a long time, it should not be washed in the dishwasher or soaked in water for a long time. Instead of chemical detergents, which are harmful to health and the environment, it is worth using natural detergents for washing - wash with lemon, soda or vinegar, and then rinse with water. After washing, we should put it upright to let it drip out of the water, or wipe it with a clean and dry cloth immediately.
Bamboo cutting board must be properly impregnated to provide additional protection against moisture and damage. To do this, it is enough to use any cooking oil, which is simply rubbed on the board. After oiling, wait at least 12 hours before using the cutting board. This process should be repeated regularly, e.g. every two months. Then it is properly secured and will serve us for many years.
A very practical and convenient solution is a bamboo cutting board with tray. The pull-out tray is useful, for example, when we want to transfer vegetables from the board to the pot or when we have to throw away peelings and leftovers.
However, a bamboo cutting board made of natural materials is not only practical, universal and at the same time not harmful to the environment, but also looks so impressive that we can also successfully use it for serving snacks at parties, family gatherings, etc., as well as everyday.
