Anyone who regularly visits our organic shop has certainly often come across mysterious jars with Manuka honey. Perhaps he also happened to hear something about its amazing properties. But what is this manuk and why does it need honey?

Let's start with the most important thing: not Manuk, but Manuka! Manuka is a shrub that grows wild in New Zealand and some parts of Australia. They are not grown industrially, which is why Manuka honey is a real rarity. It has a characteristically thick texture, a beautiful color ranging from light caramel beige to dark brown and an intense taste: slightly bitter, sometimes described as earthy or mineral, reminiscent of the taste of heather honey. However, what will interest us most here are its beautifying – nourishing and antibacterial – properties.

honey in general has been known for centuries as a substance with an almost magical preservative effect. Did you know that the honey found in the tombs of the pharaohs turned out to be still edible? After thousands of years! Manuka honey has fantastic antibacterial properties, which is one of the reasons it works so well as a cosmetic. However, the antiseptic effect is not the only benefit: just as important, thanks to the content of various vitamins and minerals, manuka honey wonderfully nourishes and moisturizes the skin while gently whitening and giving it shine.

Sighing if natural cosmetics

Manuka honey, which you can buy in our organic shop, is of course suitable for culinary use - just like any other honey! The already mentioned characteristic, refined taste makes it an interesting addition to desserts, pancakes, ice cream or even coffee or tea.

However, it is definitely worth using it in beauty care! There are several ways to do this, here are some of them:

• cleansing and nourishing face mask : A tablespoon of slightly warmed honey should be spread all over the face and left on for at least fifteen minutes. To enhance the antibacterial and anti-acne properties of honey, you can add a flat teaspoon of green clay to it (you can also buy it in our store). Honey is a particularly good base for clay masks, as it does not dry out the face, which can significantly increase the application time of the mask;
• Regenerating compress for chapped lips : In autumn and winter, lips need a good dose of moisture - Manuka honey can provide them with it! Before bed, spread a thin layer of honey on your lips and you will wake up with smooth, moisturized lips. Note: This is an offer only for the strong-willed, because honey must not be licked off - licking the lips leads to dehydration!
• Moisturizing hair mask : When your hair is lifeless, dry and damaged, a natural manuka honey mask may be just what you need. Mix a tablespoon of honey with a beaten egg (you can also add your favorite oil or even olive oil) and apply to your hair for at least an hour, then rinse and wash with a gentle shampoo. The effect - immediately!
