Currently recognized as a superfood, i.e. a food high in nutrients beneficial to our body, valued for its immune-supporting effects. It is used, among other things, as an aid in the treatment of kidney, liver and lung diseases. Let's take a closer look at this unassuming yet unusual mushroom, the Chinese Cordyceps , and when is it worth turning to for its health-promoting properties?
What is Chinese Cordyceps ?
Cordyceps is a parasitic fungus that only grows in the mountainous areas of Tibet and Nepal at altitudes of 3 to 5 thousand meters above sea level. Since it is very rare and difficult to find, it is considered even more valuable. The life cycle of the Chinese crab is completely unusual. In winter, it parasitizes underground in the larva of a moth of the family Thitarodes. In spring, as the snow melts, it begins to grow in a form resembling a miniature club, the size of a pinky finger, it is still hidden underground, and only grows as a distinct fungus emerging on the surface in summer. It is extremely difficult to find, if only because of its small size, and it grows in completely extreme conditions. It is harvested by hand by the locals. Due to its effects and rare occurrence, the mushroom is considered extremely valuable.
Cordyceps - Properties
Cordyceps is used as a general physical and mental health enhancer, as an energizer, and as a remedy for aging and dementia. The health-promoting properties of this mushroom are mainly due to cordycepin, which helps regulate circadian rhythms and has antidepressant properties, among other things. Research on this extremely interesting organism has confirmed that its regular intake in the form of a dietary supplement improves and normalizes the level of steroid hormones, including testosterone. In addition, Cordyceps also contains polysaccharides, biologically active ingredients, vitamins and minerals. It also belongs to the group of plants and fungi called adaptogens. Adaptogens contain compounds that help balance the body and reduce the effects of stress. Chinese macaroni extract stimulates the body's own defense cells, the so-called macrophages, to produce cytokines - inflammatory substances, thanks to which Cordyceps has an immune-stimulating effect. Therefore, consumption in the form of a dietary supplement is recommended in a situation when we have reduced immunity, as well as in the autumn and winter season. Laboratory studies have also shown that it is effective against Staphylococcus aureus ( Staphylococcus aureus ).
