Manuka honey: a sweet path to beauty

Manukahonig : ein süßer Weg zur Schönheit

If you regularly visit our organic store, you've probably come across mysterious jars of Manuka honey. Perhaps you've even heard something about its amazing properties. But what is Manuka honey, and why does it need honey?

Let's start with the most important thing: not Manuk, but Manuka! Manuka is a shrub that grows wild in New Zealand and some parts of Australia. It is not cultivated industrially, which is why Manuka honey is a true rarity. It has a characteristically thick texture, a beautiful color ranging from light caramel beige to dark brown, and an intense flavor: slightly bitter, sometimes described as earthy or mineral, reminiscent of heather honey. What interests us most here, however, are its beautifying—conditioning and antibacterial—properties.

Weapon in the fight against bacteria - and more!

Honey in general has been known for centuries as a substance with an almost magical preservative effect. Did you know that honey found in the tombs of the pharaohs turned out to be still edible? After thousands of years! Manuka honey has fantastic antibacterial properties, which is one of the reasons why it works so well as a cosmetic. However, the antiseptic effect isn't its only benefit: Equally important, thanks to its content of various vitamins and minerals, Manuka honey wonderfully nourishes and moisturizes the skin, while gently brightening and adding radiance.

Manuka honey as natural cosmetics

Manuka honey, which you can buy in our organic store, is naturally suitable for culinary use—just like any other honey! Its characteristic, refined flavor makes it an interesting addition to desserts, pancakes, ice cream, or even coffee or tea.

However, it's definitely worth using in beauty care! There are several ways to do this, here are some of them:

  • Cleansing and nourishing face mask : Spread a tablespoon of slightly warmed honey over the entire face and leave on for at least fifteen minutes. To enhance the antibacterial and anti-acne properties of honey, you can add a flat teaspoon of green clay (also available in our store). Honey is a particularly good base for clay masks because it doesn't dry out the face, which can significantly extend the mask's application time.
  • Regenerating compress for chapped lips : In fall and winter, lips need a good dose of moisture – Manuka honey can provide it! Spread a thin layer of honey on your lips before bed, and you'll wake up with smooth, moisturized lips. Note: This is for the strong-willed only, as honey should not be licked – licking your lips will cause them to dry out!
  • Moisturizing Hair Mask : If your hair is lifeless, dry, and damaged, a natural Manuka honey mask may be just what you need. Mix a tablespoon of honey with a beaten egg (you can also add your favorite oil or even olive oil) and apply it to your hair for at least an hour, then rinse and wash with a gentle shampoo. The effect is immediate!
