Coral limestone is an all-natural fossil powder, a type of salt and calcium that is only extracted from fossilized coral reefs. Coral limestone is quarried from the clear seabed near the subtropical Japanese island of Okinawa. The coral reef is made up of marine and invertebrates called corals, which secrete calcium salts to regulate the pH of the surrounding water. The mineral skeleton of corals is characterized by a high content of calcium, more specifically calcium carbonate, and is also the source of many other naturally occurring minerals in the sea, including magnesium, zinc and iron, potassium. Coral limestone contains the same ratio of calcium to magnesium (2:1, or about 20% calcium and 10% magnesium) as our bones. These minerals are unique in that they occur naturally in the highly ionized form (up to 92%) and are therefore better absorbed than the weakly ionized form, even by people with digestive problems.
