Devil's Claw Devil's Claw 100 capsules NOW FOODS
It owes its name to the appearance of thorn pods that develop from bright red flowers.
Black healers have been using devil's claw for many diseases for thousands of years. The only place on earth where this wonderful plant grows is the Kalahari Desert in southwest Africa. In this extremely dry area, with practically no vegetation, the devil's claw had to develop a special root system to retain moisture. When she grows to a depth of 120 cm, she branches out into a bunch of tuberous roots resembling potatoes. 100 kilograms of these roots result in six kilograms of raw material containing active ingredients.
It owes its name to the appearance of thorny pods that develop from bright red flowers. These pods, like devil's claws, are so strong that you have to use pliers to pry them out of the animals' hooves.
Each root is individually dug up, cut, dried and grated. The result is a sticky substance that is difficult to handle. European settlers became acquainted with this extraordinary African herb at the beginning of the 20th century. One of them sent samples from Dr. Bernhard Zorn, Head of the Institute for Physiology and Chemistry at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany.
Of course, first there were therapeutic experiments on rats. They provoked gout with the help of formaldehyde, and when inflammation developed after 12-14 days, the root was administered in the form of an infusion, orally and by injection. Three series of tests were carried out. After five weeks of devil's claw treatment, swelling was significantly reduced and normal foot movement restored, while there was little spontaneous gout relief in the control group.
The famous Swiss herbalist, after studying devil's claw as a health measure, recommends everyone to have a yearly treatment with the root as it removes toxic residues from our body and allows us to live healthier lives.
