Astragalus is almost as popular in China as the world-famous ginseng. Although many species of Astragalus, and there are about 2,500 of them, are found in prairies and steppes, this is not its only habitat. It is found on all continents, but prefers the Northern Hemisphere. The greatest diversity of this plant is found in China (about 400 species), Turkey (about 370 species), and Kazakhstan (about 300 species).

We owe our knowledge of the health-promoting properties of astragalus to the Chinese. They have been using the plant for over 2,000 years. According to legend, astragalus was given to the inhabitants of the Middle Kingdom by the mythical Emperor Shannong, the Divine Farmer. Why is astragalus so valued in China? Will its popularity spread to other parts of the world?

Health-promoting properties of Astragalus

Astragalus root is rich in many valuable components. It contains flavonoids with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, diuretic saponins, and there is no shortage of glycosides, polysaccharides, triterpenes, and amino acids in the plant. The great value of astragalus is its ability to support the immune system and thus exhibits properties that help us fight various types of infections (especially those of the respiratory tract). In case of illness, Astragalus membranaceus shortens the duration of illness and accelerates the fight against microorganisms.

Diabetics will also experience positive effects from taking astragalus. Astragalus helps the body regulate glucose levels. The plant's properties also regulate cholesterol and triglyceride levels, leading to improved heart function.

It is important to know that Astragalus is also a powerful antioxidant, which means it reduces the amount of free radicals in the body, which leads to a slowing down of the aging process.

How should you use Astragalus weed?

We should also know when we cannot benefit from the beneficial properties of this plant. Astragalus membranous is not intended for people who are allergic to the plant's constituents. It should not be used by pregnant or breastfeeding women. It is also recommended that people suffering from autoimmune diseases and taking immunosuppressive medications avoid using this plant.
