Biloba ( Ginkgo biloba ) actually occurs naturally in China and is actually Chinese ginkgo, and its common name Japanese ginkgo was adopted in Poland because this tree first came to Europe from Japan. The Japanese appreciated the health-promoting properties of ginkgo very early on and have been planting it near palaces and temples for centuries. Both the Japanese and the Chinese consider this tree to be an ornamental and medicinal plant and even a magical plant that protects against fires. On the other hand, its roasted seeds are said to be a real delicacy. Ginkgo biloba is a long-lived tree that can live up to 4,000 years. Today, the oldest relics and endemic species are found in southeast China, and there are several trees that are 3,400 years old and 40 meters tall. In both China and Japan, it is considered a plant that provides longevity. Let's see how much truth there is in this.

  • Quercetin,

  • flavonoids,
  • Vitamins C and E,
  • phytosterols,
  • Selenium,
  • Carotene,
  • camphor oil,

Japanese Ginkgo - Promotion

The above-mentioned ingredients make up Ginkgo biloba :

  • has a positive effect on the circulatory system, which improves the oxygen supply to the whole body - it helps to improve the functioning of the brain,
  • helps to get rid of fatigue,
  • has a positive effect on memory, it is especially recommended for older people or people with signs of dementia,

  • Helps to regain balance in cases of dizziness and eliminate the feeling of "light spots" in front of the eyes.

Ginkgo biloba, available in the form of tablets or capsules containing an extract from the leaves of this plant, is recommended for people who want to strengthen their mental functioning, memory, and general well-being, as well as for those suffering from circulatory disorders, especially in the limbs, manifested by constant colds and cold feet. Ginkgo can also be used in the form of teas, infusions, or tinctures.

Ginkgo tincture - how to make

To make ginkgo tincture, you should buy ready-made dried ginkgo or collect the leaves yourself if Ginkgo biloba grows in your area (preferably away from roads). It's best to collect leaves that are beginning to turn yellow or even completely yellow. Leaves or finely crushed dried leaves are sufficient to fit into a closed container, preferably a glass jar. The entire jar, which should be fairly tightly filled, should be filled with alcohol. After some time, when the mixture is ready, you can dilute it with water. Place the sealed jar in a dark place and wait about three months until the mixture turns yellow. Strain and dilute with water, the tincture is ready to consume. A teaspoon of tincture before bedtime helps dilate the capillaries, thereby eliminating the feeling of cold feet.

Ginkgo Biloba - Contraindications

Dietary supplements containing ginkgo extract should not be used by people taking antiplatelet and anticoagulant medications, or by pregnant or breastfeeding women. Ginkgo extract may interact with other medications, so if you take regular medications, consult your doctor before taking ginkgo biloba supplements.

Ginkgo biloba and diabetes

Researchers at the University of Cincinnati conducted studies on rats showing that ginkgo biloba may be helpful in the fight against type 2 diabetes. In diabetic rats, it was found that ginkgo had a positive effect on the pancreatic cells responsible for insulin secretion and had a regenerative effect.
