Pastes as butter substitutes
Many people are increasingly choosing to eliminate butter from their daily diet and are looking for healthier alternatives. Bread combined with other fatty spreads like mayonnaise is also being avoided. So what should you replace the base of every sandwich with? There are many options, and today we'll try to introduce some of the most popular ones.
Hummus
Hummus is a vegan classic that never gets boring. Its undeniable advantage is that it's easy to prepare and doesn't take too much time. What's more, the ingredients we need to make hummus are readily available in many stores, so you don't have to waste your energy searching for them. So, what should we buy if we decide to make hummus? The base is chickpeas and tahini paste , which should be combined with garlic, fresh lemon juice, cold water, and olive oil. However, this last ingredient can be replaced with natural yogurt, which makes the dish lighter and fluffier. There are also versions of hummus based on vegetables like beets, peppers, and carrots —it's worth including them too!
pumpkin seed paste
Pumpkin seed paste is another option that should appeal to those short on time—it doesn't take long to prepare, as long as the aforementioned seeds are soaked. What ingredients should you buy when preparing this delicacy? Aside from the essentials already mentioned, you'll definitely need sun-dried tomatoes, garlic, lemon juice, soy sauce (in small amounts), and olive oil.
Vegan lard
Vegan lard can be prepared in many ways, but we offer the simplest and most delicious version based on white beans. What should we combine beans with? Definitely onions, olive oil, and nutritional yeast. The whole thing can be enriched with an apple, for example, and then seasoned accordingly, including pepper , salt, marjoram , and thyme.
Green pea paste
If we want to stop eating butter, green pea paste should be one of our staple spreads. There are several reasons.
- First, it is cheap.
- Second , it's easy.
- Thirdly, you can prepare it very quickly.
- Fourth, we probably have all the products we need at home.
So, what do you need to make the spread? Green peas (they can be frozen or canned), of course, mixed with a generous amount of garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil or natural yogurt. Add a pinch of pepper and salt, and you've got one of the most interesting spreads you can spread on bread.
These are just four suggestions, although they are undoubtedly delicious and nutritious. However, we'll be returning to this topic often, as there are many pastes that can replace butter.
