A one-pot meal—a complete meal prepared entirely in a single dish—not only saves time, reduces washing up, and is a nutritious and easy-to-prepare meal. It also means less water and electricity consumption, making it an economical and environmentally friendly meal. And it's perfect for preparing dinner using what we have at home, without having to buy special ingredients. What dishes can be prepared in one pot to make them delicious, healthy, and zero-waste?
Meat casserole – a one-pot dish from the oven
- Portion of any minced meat (approx. 0.5 kg)
- any vegetables we have at home
Place the minced meat in a previously greased baking dish (to prevent the ingredients from sticking to the bottom). Season with salt and pepper and add your favorite spices (thyme, Provençal herbs, oregano, garlic, mustard, and honey). Top the seasoned meat with whatever vegetables you have at home or whatever you fancy. These could be potatoes, carrots, onions, peas, or even zucchini or eggplant. Place the prepared roasting dish in an oven preheated to 180°C and bake for about an hour. After removing it from the oven, while it's still hot, sprinkle with grated cheese, and dinner is ready.
Noodles with vegetables
- any favorite pasta (approx. 250 g)
- Tomato passata or canned tomatoes
- Vegetables: peppers, zucchini, onions, garlic, mushrooms or olives, depending on your preference
- Salt, pepper and your favorite spices
- yellow cheese, grated
Place the diced vegetables in an oiled roasting pan and toss with pasta, canned tomatoes or passata, and seasonings. Sprinkle with grated cheese. Bake at 180°C until the vegetables and pasta are tender.
Shakshouka
- Tomatoes approx. 0.5 kg (4 pieces)
- 4 eggs
- Olive oil or a tablespoon of clarified butter
- small onion
- Garlic - 2 cloves
- Herbs : salt and pepper, sweet paprika, cayenne pepper , cumin,
- Parsley or coriander, chives
Dice garlic, onions, and peeled tomatoes and add them to a pan with clarified butter and spices in hot oil. When the tomatoes are soft and beginning to fall apart, make indentations and crack in the eggs. Cover and wait about 3 minutes, until the egg whites set and the yolks remain runny. Sprinkle the finished dish with parsley, cilantro, and chives. If desired, you can also add spinach leaves. Shakshouka can be freely adapted to your taste; for example, you can use peppers or broad beans in addition to tomatoes.
Tofu noodles
- Pack of spaghetti pasta
- Cherry tomatoes, about 10 pieces
- small onion
- diced smoked tofu
- a handful of fresh basil leaves
- a handful of sliced olives
- 2 chopped garlic cloves
- Spices: salt, pepper, oregano
- 2 tablespoons oil
- water glass
All the ingredients: pasta, halved cherry tomatoes, tofu, diced onions, garlic cloves, olives, spices, and oil are combined with water. The dish is ready when the pasta is completely soft. Finally, when the pasta is hot, you can add some grated cheese and garnish with fresh basil.
