Was ist die Verwendung und Eigenschaften von Beinwell - wie kann "lebender Knochen" helfen?

We've somewhat forgotten about comfrey; hardly anyone knows what it is for or what benefits it can offer. And it's a fairly common plant, once widely used by physicians. Its root has proven to be particularly valuable.

"Live midge," as the plant was formerly called, is abundant throughout Europe, including Poland. It can also be found on the fringes of Siberia, in Asia Minor, and Central Asia. It has also been introduced to North America, where it has successfully adapted. Currently, comfrey is also cultivated in gardens due to the intense purple color of its flowers.

Precisely because the plant "feeds bones," it is called comfrey. Comfrey, and especially the root of the plant, contains many valuable substances that are used in herbal medicine. Although about 10–15% of the root is mucilage, the other ingredients include allantoin (up to 1.5%), tannins (up to 6.5%), fructans, starch, beta-sitosterol, polyphenols, asparagine, amino acids, traces of essential oil, and mineral salts with a high silicon content. This makes comfrey a highly valuable product widely used in cosmetics and herbal medicine.

It is the allantoin content that causes comfrey to have a positive effect on tissue regeneration and accelerate wound healing, also due to its moisturizing properties. Allantoin is a popular active ingredient used successfully in cosmetics. Its softening and smoothing properties also accelerate skin regeneration and protect it from sunburn, for example. It is also effective in treating psoriasis and alleviating its symptoms.

What is the current use of comfrey ?

It's important to note that comfrey cannot be used internally, as it also has toxic properties. It contains poisonous alkaloids that are harmful to the liver. However, all compresses, ointments, or gels have a truly wide range of applications, with comfrey most commonly used for:

  • Diseases of the spine and joints,
  • Abrasions
  • fractures,
  • sprains,
  • bruises,
  • Inflammation of the tendons,
  • Knee and other joint injuries
  • Rheumatism,

Comfrey is available in various forms on the market today. You can use ready-made preparations in the form of ointments or gels, which are great for bone pain, for example. You can also choose to purchase the roots, which are most commonly used to improve skin condition and for abrasions or bruises.
