Galangal , also called Alpinia medicinal or Alpinia galangal, is a plant in the ginger family that is used in cooking as a spice with a strong, spicy, and slightly bitter flavor. Furthermore, the plant is believed to have a number of extremely valuable health-promoting properties and is recommended for use in the fight against various diseases. In Germany, for example, it has been granted medicinal status. In Poland, this plant, which originates from Southeast Asia and is similar in appearance to ginger root , is still relatively little known and popular. And that's a shame, because its effects on our health are invaluable. How does it work, and when is it worth using?

- Prevent infections.
The use of medical Alps
Galangal root is usually available in ground form. It is one of the most basic spices used in Thai, Indonesian, and Vietnamese cuisine. It pairs well with exotic dishes such as lemongrass, curry, or ginger. It can be added to soups, especially pea or bean soups, rich sauces, marinades, and vegetable, fish, and meat dishes, especially beef. Ground galangal root added to particularly hard-to-digest dishes not only enriches their flavor but also aids the digestive process.
A tincture of powdered galangal root
During periods of increased susceptibility to infections, colds, digestive problems, rheumatic pain, and general weakness, an infusion or tincture of powdered galangal root can be easily prepared for health benefits and to strengthen natural immunity. To prepare the infusion, simply add a teaspoon of the spice to a cup, pour hot water over it, and then steep for about 20 minutes.
To make the tincture, however, 100 g of galangal powder must be poured over 500 ml of strong alcohol (at least 40%), macerated for 10 days, and then filtered. It is then ready to consume. For therapeutic purposes, 5 ml of the tincture should be taken up to three times a day. For muscle or joint pain, the tincture can also be used in the form of compresses.
