Water and drinks in single-use plastic bottles, food wrapped in cling film, paper towels, cotton pads and swabs that are thrown in the trash after one use, plastic garbage bags, and detergent in plastic bottles—these are just a few examples of how environmentally unfriendly a lifestyle is for most of us. It seems that reducing waste production these days is difficult, whether at home or outdoors, at work or school. However, there are ways to implement a few simple rules to throw away less trash and be more environmentally friendly.

Drinking outside

Probably the most basic and simplest thing is to avoid all types of disposable bottles and cups. Instead, take bottles to work or school that we can use for years. And the selection is truly vast:

  • BPA-free plastic bottles and water bottles – contrary to appearances, zero waste does not preclude the use of 100 percent plastic. Especially for school-age children, plastic water bottles are a much better choice. They are lighter and safer to use than glass ones. It's important that they are made from proven, certified materials and that we take special care of them so they last as long as possible. A water bottle, even a plastic one that we can fill with water or our favorite juice, wash every day, and use for several years, is always a better choice than a single-use plastic bottle.
  • Water bottle with straw made of PLA plastic – a perfect solution for younger children, even better and more environmentally friendly than conventional plastic water bottles. PLA plastic is a polymer of natural origin derived from corn and sugar cane and is one of the most popular bioplastics. Bioplastics are a natural alternative to plastics. They can also store hot drinks up to 70°C. It is reusable and recyclable.
  • Bottles with filters – a great solution that allows us to refill water anywhere – at work, at school or anywhere in the city, e.g. in the cinema or shopping centre,
  • Mugs, thermoses, and flasks – there's no point in buying takeaway coffee in a plastic cup. It's definitely better to brew your favorite coffee at home and take it with you in a stylish, stylish thermal mug that keeps the drink warm for up to 18 hours. In winter, it's also a good idea to make a warming tea for your child to take to school. When choosing a thermal mug or flask, make sure it's BPA-free, toxin-free, and phthalate-free.

to eat out

It's not only ecologically sound, but also economical and healthy to prepare your favorite food at home from tried-and-true ingredients, rather than spending money on convenience foods in the city or buying plastic bars, chips, and other junk snacks packed with chemicals at the school store. We currently have a selection of beautifully designed:

  • Breakfast,
  • Material lunch bags that can be successfully washed,
  • beeswax – materials impregnated with natural wax, often with a very beautiful print, with the properties of aluminum foil, which can be used many times and washed under running water,
  • Sandwich wraps – You can also choose reusable sandwich wraps made of cotton or recycled plastic with a non-toxic finish. They're easy to clean and dry quickly, and most importantly, they're reusable.
  • Bamboo cutlery – if you've decided to prepare meals at home for ecological reasons, it's a good idea to include cutlery in a set like this. Bamboo cutlery is an alternative to plastic spoons and forks. The advantage of bamboo is that it grows extremely quickly, its cultivation does not require the use of pesticides, is artificial, and has no negative impact on the ecosystem. Furthermore, items made from it are biodegradable.

As it turns out, zero waste isn't that difficult to implement at work or school, and there are a whole range of eco-friendly solutions. The important thing is that these solutions not only protect the environment but also protect our wallets and our health.
