Diapers with bamboo fiber – an ecological alternative to disposable “Pampers”

- Ecological alternative – diapers made from bamboo fibers
When disposable diapers came onto the market in the 1990s, our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and nannies loved them with all their hearts. This isn't surprising, considering that for decades, hold-on diapers dominated the market, which were hardly comfortable to use, given that these diapers had to be rinsed, washed, boiled, rinsed again, wrung out, hung up, and so on every day, and ironed after drying. And all this was often done without automatic washing machines—today, you can simply throw such diapers into the washing machine and set the "soak" and "boil" cycles.
Over the next 30 years, the market was flooded with disposable diapers from many other companies, alongside Pampers diapers (all disposable diapers are now simply called "Pampers"), until our ecological awareness began to change. The 20s of the 21st century are a time of reflection and critical evaluation of the previous decades of consumerism. Today, there is increasing discussion about ecology, zero-waste movements, and the responsibility of ordinary people whose lifestyles impact the natural environment and the fate of future generations living on our increasingly exploited planet.
Why are regular diapers not environmentally friendly?
Babies are in constant contact with their diapers, which are usually only removed for bathing and changing. Therefore, the diaper is in constant contact not only with the baby's skin but also with their mucous membranes. Therefore, when choosing which powder to use for washing children's clothes, we should pay even more attention to what babies' skin and mucous membranes come into contact with. To make disposable diapers absorbent and impermeable, the following are used in their production:
- Sodium polyacrylate (SAP) – particles whose function is to absorb moisture can cause skin irritation or infection,
- Dioxins – Diapers are bleached with chlorine, leaving traces of dioxins that permanently pollute the environment and can cause health problems, weaken the immune system, and disrupt hormones.
- Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) – they can cause neurological problems, eye irritation and reduced immunity.
The use of disposable diapers, which are largely made of plastic, is unecological—they have an extremely short lifespan and end up in the trash very quickly, leading to an immediate increase in the amount of non-recyclable waste. This waste takes up a lot of space and takes hundreds of years to decompose. They also have a negative impact on a child's delicate skin, causing chafing and preventing airflow.
Ecological alternative – diapers made from bamboo fibers
As our environmental awareness and sensitivity to the state of our planet become increasingly important, manufacturers are offering new solutions that are more environmentally friendly and healthier for children's skin. Many parents are choosing to switch back to hold-up diapers, which now have beautiful patterns, and there are also inserts and various types of covers available. However, if we value the convenience of using disposable diapers, diapers made of biodegradable bamboo fiber with a cellulose fiber insert are an ecological alternative. In addition, these diapers are:
- do not contain chlorine,
- they let air through,
- they are not perfumed.
The bamboo nonwoven fabric used on the inside and outside of the diaper is skin-friendly and biodegradable: it reduces the risk of chafing and irritation and allows the skin to breathe. It's an alternative to regular diapers, offering comfort for the child while protecting the environment.
