Self-care for busy people - how to take care of yourself on the go
A little exercise will do you good
A full-time education might seem like too much of a commitment, but don't take it as an excuse not to move at all. Just a few stretches upon waking will energize you and trigger a burst of endorphin. If you roll your shoulders or stretch your aching neck muscles after hours in front of the computer, you will feel better and do something good for your body. If you're new to quick stretches, it's worth looking into The Sun Salutation is a short yoga sequence that warms up and stretches your entire body in minutes.
stop and breathe
There has been a lot of talk lately about the health benefits of meditation. Nevertheless, for many people it still sounds too complicated, mystical or pleasing. You don't have to be sitting cross-legged on the floor surrounded by candles to feel comfortable. All you have to do is stop for a moment and take a few deep breaths. You can use the 4-7-8 technique where you count to four, breathe in through your nose for a count of seven and breathe out through your mouth for a count of eight. Already after 4 cycles you will feel a great relief and calm down significantly.
Feel grateful
Why is it so important to practice gratitude? Often a lot happens in our life and we usually act according to the so-called "autopilot". By simply writing down five things we are grateful for on any given day, we make a conscious choice to focus on the good. It helps us appreciate even the little things that we wouldn't normally pay attention to.
The power of affirmation
Staying on the subject of reinforcing good thoughts - a few words on affirmation. What is affirmation anyway? It is a positive statement about ourselves or the reality around us that we repeat in our minds throughout the day. It does not require much effort from us and brings a lot of positive results. By consciously repeating affirmations in our minds based on the autosuggestion mechanism, our brain begins to treat them as real, even if we don't fully believe them at first. As a result, it not only improves our well-being, but also increases our self-esteem.
But first...
... Let's have understanding for each other. Our life will never be perfect. Sometimes we are nice and friendly to each other, sometimes it is difficult. But you can't blame yourself when things don't go your way. Let's do what we can and allow ourselves to make mistakes.
